About this site

The aim of China Copyright and Media is to be an online resource providing access to and insight in Chinese law and policy regarding public communication. Currently, it contains a blog and an expanding China Media Law Database. In the future, this will be supplemented by topical issue papers and case analysis. This website was conceived in support of a Ph.D. project to research the nexus between copyright law, media control and international trade in China, and has expanded to include the law and policy of public communications and the information society. All material on this site was produced with the support of public funding, and is licensed under Creative Commons, allowing for free use for all non-commercial purposes, on the condition of source attribution.

About me, Rogier Creemers

I currently am a post-doctoral scholar at the Programme for Comparative Media Law and Policy at the University of Oxford, where I research Chinese Internet law and regulation with the support of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. I hold Master degrees in Chinese Studies and International Relations (Catholic University of Leuven, 2004 and 2006), and a Doctorate in Law from Maastricht University. My doctoral dissertation explored the complex relationship between audiovisual media piracy in China, international trade and globalisation. My current research is dedicated to mapping and conceptualising China’s media governance landscape, particularly where the Internet is concerned.

Apart from academic writing, I also regularly publish op-ed articles and columns, amongst others on openDemocracy, and China Law Blog.

Media enquiries are welcomed on topics including Chinese media and Internet law and policy, Chinese intellectual property law, China and international trade, and China’s integration with international governance. Please contact: rogier dot creemers at csls.ox.ac.uk

Part of the research on which this web site was based has been made possible by a visiting Ph.D. research grant of  the China-EU School of Law, from May 2013 onwards, this website is supported by a Rubicon grant of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research.
